Hello everyone!
This will be taking place of my "Tips & Tricks Tuesday" special (
but it kinda fits with the topic... right?)
Due to some recent issues I have been dealing with, it has been more difficult for me to keep up with my schedule (
and remember things, unfortunately)! I'm going to share some ways I have found to help myself keep up with things.
1) Use a planner!
I don't care if you get a printable one (from Google or Pinterest), buy one from the store or make one yourself ---
USE ONE!!! I don't know how I kept up with everything beforehand, because this thing is a life saver!
I have
this one filled out, but it doesn't really have a lot of space to mess with. I ended up just buying one from Walmart (it's simple and
lots of place to write, I got mine for about $10).
Find one that works for you; whether that's more writing space or a specific layout -- you can find it!
I also use stickers. I had an old planner that I got stickers that say things like: test, assignment due, important date, etc. I might buy some more soon! I really like
these and
these.
2) Plan ahead!
I have to admit -- I'm horrible at planning things out ahead of time! However, I've learned that the more I plan out, the more I get done.
If you're a student --
Use your syllabus! Use it to your advantage! If you aren't the type to print things out and highlight important dates -- write down important events in that planner that we just talked about:
- homework assignments
- test dates
- study time
As a student, you probably have more than just class going on. It's easy to miss a little assignment or let a test creep up on you. With this, it'll help you avoid those situations.
If you're a working adult -- There's TONS of stuff that you could plan out that would help make your day ten times more productive. You could plan anything from:
- meals
- outfits
- household chores
- exercise
Those right there could help you from falling behind or forgetting things, no matter how insignificant it can seem at the time.
If you're a parent -- Although I'm not a parent, I can imagine how busy you guys must be! Taking the time to sit down and write out a plan for the day or week will really help you get a lot done. Whether it's school events, laundry, even dinner plans can give you one less thing to worry about.
If you're a blogger --
*I need to take my own advice* What I have found that helps me the most is writing out ideas when I have them & putting them in my drafts. As I have time or come to it, I work on it and add to it until it's ready. It let's me keep myself from scrambling last minute for an idea or a post. It's easier for me to keep posting new things that way.
3) Make lists, and be detailed!
Making lists has made all the difference in how much I get done! If I physically write it and can visibly see it, it's much easier for me to get things done.
It's also a really good feeling to cross things off of my list and see that I have one less thing to worry about at the end of the day.
I suggest reading
The Dainty Squid's post on this topic, it's very detailed and has some good tips. I will link you to it
here.
4) Prioritize!
Since we mentioned list-making, I feel like we should mention how important prioritizing is. I'm
awful about this myself! I always look at my list and seem drawn to do the "fun" things first... even if I know that something needs to be done.
When you make a list, it's helpful to try and order them from most to least importance. If you can make yourself stay to that order, you won't have that "I wish I would have done that already!" moment.
5) PRACTICE!
This probably sounds silly... but practice
does make perfect with organization. Heck, I'm not the best at it and I've been working on it for a while.
If you forget to put something in your planner or something on your list --
it's okay, it happens! Don't be too hard on yourself and just keep at it. Mistakes help you learn what you need to work on and maybe what you need to try harder at. It really does take practice at learning what your style is and what helps you remember things.
I hope this is helpful to you guys! It has definitely helped me over the last few weeks. This "list" is so hopefully we can all utilize our time to the best of our abilities.
:) xoxo
